Inaugural Address
Min Soo KIM
I am deeply honored to be elected as the fifth President of the Asian Union of Thermal Science and Engineering (AUTSE). This esteemed position carries a significant responsibility, and I am committed to advancing our AUTSE activities, enhancing our visibility, and ensuring it is recognized as a leading organization in our thermal science and engineering fields. The success of our AUTSE would not have been possible without the leadership of former AUTSE presidents and the unselfish support of many delegates from many countries. Their dedication and contribution have made AUTSE highly acknowledged by many international academic societies, and I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to them.
As we are all aware of, AUTSE was established in 2015 as an international, professional, non-governmental and non-profit organization for the community of thermal science and engineering in Asia. With this background, we have worked together to promote academic exchange and mutual cooperation among members. The previous Asian Conference on Thermal Sciences (1st ACTS in Jeju, Korea (2017), 2nd ACTS in Fukuoka, Japan (2021), 3rd ACTS in Shanghai, China (2024)) played a great role of paramount importance in facilitating communication with others and strengthening partnership within our community.
In accordance with the global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and promote environmental sustainability, it is essential that the thermal science and engineering society should cooperate and collaborate to address worldwide energy and environmental challenges. In pursuing carbon neutrality, key areas such as efficient power generation systems, renewable energy integration, thermal energy storage to alleviate peak loads, electronics cooling system especially for data centers, thermal management in buildings and automobiles, and enhanced heat transfer system will be crucial in developing innovative solutions. We need new ideas in these fields, and I firmly believe that our cooperation and collaboration to share essential expertise is vital to guarantee success. Research and development are constantly promoted, while ensuring that young generations are well-educated and prepared with deep knowledge and diverse experience.
One of my priorities as president is to put focus on fostering communications among thermal scientists and engineers. Also, members’ gathering at several conferences related with or supported by AUTSE will be positively tried. Executive board (EB) meetings will be regularly held both online and/or in-person to plan and coordinate several AUTSE events. I hope to form a close network among member countries and regions, and extend this network to new members across Asian countries and regions. Additionally, awards should be given to distinguished senior researchers for their lifetime outstanding accomplishments and to young researchers for their challenges and innovative ideas.
I am eager to work harmoniously with new EB members of AUTSE in developing new ideas, advancing our activities, elevating our international visibility, and importantly supporting young researchers. I hope to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the members of AUTSE for ongoing support and cooperation. Our collective efforts today will shape our future, and I strongly believe we can create a brighter, more sustainable future together with members of AUTSE.
